Summer Bucket List (And Why It Works)

There’s nothing like long summer days, summer blooms, refreshing fruit and having fun outdoors. Just like summer break in school, we love the idea of slowing down, having fun and enjoying the simple things this season.

With low-tox, we talk a lot about swaps and clean products, but low-tox is also about destressing and enjoying what’s already there. After all being able to enjoy life is whole point of living low-tox.

This summer we want to focus on lowering cortisol and helping our bodies and nervous system do their jobs without added challenges. Stress is one of the most toxic things we put our bodies through. When cortisol spikes, our bodies react through inflammation, glucose, insulin and hormone imbalances and suppressed immunity. All of these can impact our bodies negatively.

The summer bucket list focuses on making the most out of the simple things this season.

Just for fun

  1. Go out for just gelato

Whether you like fruity, nutty or chocolatey gelato, make it the main event by going out just for a cup or cone of your favorite flavor. If gelato isn’t your thing, swap this for your go-to indulgence.

  2. Make homemade lemonade

Making lemonade at home is simpler than you may think. You just need lemons, sugar and water. There’s nothing more refreshing than a cold lemonade on a hot summer day.

  3. Pick a movie to watch with a summer thunderstorms in the background

A good storm deserves a good movie. Rain storms make the perfect ambiance for a good thriller! Pick a movie beforehand for when the storm rolls in.

Get outside

  1. Visit a local nursery or farmer’s market

A tomato from a farmer beats a shelf one every time. And a new plant? Good for your space and the air you breathe.

  2. Go for a long walk before or after peak heat hours

Depending on where you live, the window for tolerable weather may be small or a bit longer (lucky you). Either way, early morning and late night walks are a peaceful way to get those steps and vitamin D in.

  3. Take a scenic drive with the windows down and a song you have to sing or dance to

No destination needed, just a good road and a good song. Enjoy this car karaoke alone or with your best friend.

Good for you

  1. Create something

We love a low-stakes fun summer project. The options are endless here. Maybe starting or adding to your garden, working on a new song, trying pottery, or learning to cook a new meal. If it doesn’t come out right the first time, you have all summer to perfect it.

  2. Give something

Giving is great for your nervous system and great for your community. It can be clothing, food, an afternoon of your time or a kind review for a small local business.

  3. Screen-free for one hour, one day a week

Give your mind and nervous system a break by picking one hour once a week to step away from screens. Just focus on being present.

Moo bonus

Pick one low-tox category to learn about this summer

Just one! This one is for the ones who are constantly researching and swapping. Take the next three months to calmly and mindfully learn about one thing. We are focusing on learning about EMF exposure this summer!
